Hi to all ELNs

Greetings everyone!

This tribe now boasts 50 members. Well, 50 very silent members and I have to admit to being one of them myself. I haven't changed my habits in any way. I am still an ELN and very rarely am I asleep before 3am. But, I think that I am much like other ELNs and when I am up at these hours and the rest of the world is asleep, I enjoy my private time. I tend not to turn on chat anymore. My personal responses on email tend to be in clusters. I rarely come to tribe and rely heavily on weekly posts sent to my email. Let's face it, I'm a hermit and I enjoy the peace and quiet of the night. The last few weeks have been non-stop in the "outer" world and I have had to exist in the daylight hours. I am so glad that is over!

What makes you keep ELN hours?

hope to hear your voice in the still of the night.

Hey, what's up? Just joined the tribe and thought I'd say hi. I'm from arizona and I'm very nocturnal. When sun comes up in the morning I slow down so hard, which is bad because I work in a call center for a UK phone company, and my shift is 3am til 12pm. I usually wake up around midnight during the week and get to pass out until around 4 or 5 in the afternoon usually. On the weekends I'm more of a true night creature, leaving my lair somewhere around sun-down and going to bed around the time most people are eating breakfast.

So yeah, I'm up pretty much every night. If anyone wants somebody to talk to late at night you can find me on yahoo as DTutch_Freetalk and on MSN as Steve_Spoon@yahoo.com (Steve_Spoon is my other yahoo handle that I use on the weekends and when I'm not at work) I'd be happy to have some new people to chat with.

Not much activity on here for awhile. It's almost 1:30am and I can only see that two other people are actually up at this hour. It leads me to wonder, where are the rest of you?

What are you doing at this hour?

Did you sign-up for this tribe thinking that ELN meant something else?

Have you changed your lifelong habits and now go to sleep early?

How many ELNs does it take to change a light bulb?

Inquiring minds and all that would like to know. Give a holler out there!

Canada after midnight

Let's see, I've been in Canada, Toronto and surrounding areas for a little over a week. I was there again for the weekend music school that is put on by the organization that my barbershop chorus is with. My head is still spinning with all of the good stuff that I am bringing back to share. Hopefully I won't be too addled and I won't forget what I learn before I pass it on. Of course for the week that I was there I maybe slept a total of 8 hours. I had to be up and to class with all of the early am people. Then to boot it was three hours earlier for me. I still continued to stay up until after everyone had gone to bed. If I hadn't it would have been like going to sleep before midnight for me. My mind and body just couldn't handle that kind of a radical change.

I was there with one of the ladies in my chorus and since this was her first time in that area we stayed and visited a couple of chorus' and even went out to Niagara Falls. This is my second time there...or third. We went during the day this time and there were so many touristas that I just dropped her off and went around the area and came back and picked her up. The thought of wading through the five billion deep of human flesh that surrounded the walls overlooking the falls for some reason didn't appeal to me. That night we came back long after midnight and the place was deserted. It was so beautiful. I stood on the edge over looking the falls with the dark of night surrounding me. I thought of times hundreds of years ago when no electric lights existed and coming upon this powerful roar of water and how it must have felt. I then began singing to the myriad of sounds that came from thunderous water as it spilled over the edge. It was haunting and yet connected me to the life that only existed within the magic of the falls and the envelope of night surrounding me. I was at pure peace.

Late night rambling

Hey there!

I have been coming on here late night, of course, and not seeing anyone up and about. Tonight I actually have seen 4 people showing that they are up and on. Wahooooooooo!!!!!!

So...to all of you sleeping through the night...it was a lovely evening. I am so glad that spring is here with summer on it's heels. The nights are cool but not freezing. There is a freshness to the night. I can leave a window open and enjoy the sounds of the critters that come alive after dark. This includes a screech owl or two looking for dinner. It also includes our creature, who is actually very quiet, but that comes out each evening about midnight to munch on the scraps that we leave for him. Yes, another rescue of sorts. This is an oppossum that we have found twice at the bottom of one of our trash barrels. He was much smaller when we found him. He was obviously looking for food. Since I have tired of seeing the poor things as road kill in our area, we have taken to putting out scraps in a dog food bowl. It seems to have worked since he is quite a bit larger each time I have seen him and he seems to be content not to have to roam to forage for food. We may also be feeding a family of skunks. This of course is not to the amusement of our neighbors that had sighted them at one time. They had threatened getting traps, etc. But, if you feed them, they don't do damage to anything else...duh!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the only time that we ever smell them is when we have forgotten to leave food out.

Adventures in Late Night Wanderings

So I was taking a walk at Midnight as I occationally am want to do....My walk was rather uneventful until I got home. I got home and this little tiny tan fuzzball of a dog come up to me all friendly like. No growls just very friendly. I tested this little fuzzy by petting his head. He was very friendly. I could hear little doggie tags. So I picked him up and brought him inside the house. He did have tags and I called the numbers on his tags. The address is from Long Beach. The phone number with the address has been disconnected. The other two numbers for a animal hospital and for the Long Beach animal control which is his liscense were not open at 1am in ther morning. So I decided to wander around a little bit with him to see if anyone missed him yet and was out looking for him. I was also kind of half hoping he would show me where he belongs. Well an hour later and the rain started pouring down. So now I have this little bundle of energy hanging out in my room with me. He has just made himself at home. I put a little food and water down for him and it cute.... he goes down to the floor and takes a couple of peices of doggie food and runs back to the be dand eats it....He is very silly. I will be getting up around 9 tomorrow and seeing if anyone in the neighborhood recognizes him. I would love to reunite the owers with him. He is such a sweet doggie. I would feel bad if I had to give him to animal control. I worry that he might get put down. Anyway I will update you all later on further adventures with the little doggie.

Arrrgggh! I don't know about the rest of you folks, but just about the time I get really started doing stuff on tribe lately, it shuts down for maintenance. Promptly at 3 a.m.! (I'm on the west coast.) No warning at all. It sucks! What the hell are they doing?!?!? (I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!) I know they assume that less people are online here during late night hours, but they are dead WRONG! GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

*sigh*
End of rant. Sorry. Just had to get that out of my system. I figured you folks would be most able to relate.

Late Night Round-up!

My latest late night thrill happened the other morning when I came home at about 2 am. I live in a somewhat rural area of a city that is being fast encroached upon by new housing and people that don't respect rural life. So, the street that I live on has street lights up until my house. After that the streets are dark.

I was just about to signal to enter my driveway when I caught sight of movement on the street. My headlights only caught a glimpse of something large moving fast in the street ahead of me. Then I saw another large creature followed by a smaller one all coming from down my driveway. When my mind finally formulated what I was seeing I realized it was two large brown horses followed by a shetland pony! They were loose and traveling the dark roads. Out of fear for their safety I began following them with my highbeams and blinkers on. They soon turned off my street and went on to a street that not only doesn't have lights but it is also used as thru street for all of the people in the new housing. Most of the drivers travel the road in excess of 40 and ignore the stop signs. I knew that if anyone was coming down the street they wouldn't see the horses until they were already on top of them. So, as I crept along following the late night excursion of the unlikely trio I picked up my cell phone and called home. Calls went to the police and my husband dressed quickly and went to our neighbors since they own horses. Fortunatly our neighbor was up. She and my husband got into her jeep and came to find me.

By this time I had already twice diverted the horses onto less traveled roads and then into a field. I had my headlights trained on them in the open field when my neighbor drove up. She took one look at them and exclaimed she knew who they belonged to. So she took off to wake them up. They happened to be neighbors from around the block. In the meantime I watched the horses as they wandered about in the field.

Another 10 minutes went by before the owner showed up on foot with lariats and rope in hand. He started out into the field but the horses spooked and came back onto the busy street. I backed up and again kept my headlights on them as they started up the street. My neighbor with the jeep went around and headed them off from the opposite way. In the meantime, since there were three horses in the road as well as a man on foot, I had stopped my car on the street. An IDIOT in a truck (that could plainly see the situation) came up in back of me and proceeded to honk at me to move out of his way! After the horses were herded by the jeep to turn around I was able to move my car. The IDIOT in the truck zoomed past me honking at me as he passed.

Now the horses went back again to the open field. I again parked my car so the headlights were on them. The neighbor in the jeep came up and parked next to me and then jumped out to help the owner. The owner was in the field trying to calm down the horses and put the ropes on them. Suddenly they spooked again and started running up the busy dark street. I was the only one in a vehicle so I went after them to keep light on them.

They were now trotting at a good pace going up the street. They were coming to the intersection of my street. I knew that if they crossed the intersection they would be going into a very residential area of which there is a golf course at the end. We would never be able to catch them. So I edged my car up just past them and then angled it across the intersection. It was just enough as they took the left and started once again up my street and towards my house. Just as they were coming to my driveway I repeated the same manuver and the horses turned down my driveway and went straight to the back and into my neighbor's yard. In back of me the jeep came rolling up and my neighbor jumped out yelling, "Nice driving!!", and ran over and slammed and locked her chain link gates. The horses were not only trapped, but best of all safe! They were escorted home by an appreciative but tired owner.

I guess in this day and age it makes sense that a Ford Taurus could be used for a round-up. I guess now I can add "Cowgirl" to my resume!!!!

Just got this in my Powell's enewsletter and thought you might find it interesting. Powells.com is a great place to shop for books, new and used, and their company isn't too big to give excellent personal customer service!

FROM THE AUTHOR: KEVIN SAMPSELL
In The Insomniac Reader, editor (and Powell's bookseller/small press buyer) Kevin Sampsell has assembled an impressive array of writers — including Jonathan Ames, Rick Moody, Aimee Bender, and Jonathan Lethem — to shine their literary flashlights into the world that begins when most people sleep. In this illuminating essay for Powells.com, Sampsell explains "why some things just take on a whole new life when it gets dark."

New to ELN?

Hello and Welcome to our tribe!

If you are new here to ELN we'd all enjoy if you would take the time to answer a few questions that are listed below. Of course, you can always add a few answers and give us some new questions too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for joining the Tribe. It is always great to know that there are others out there that share the same hours that I do. Not like the wimps, Late Nighters, pooh, in bed after midnight. I can't even imagine that at all. There is so much valuable time wasted in the night and early morning that can be used for so many great projects.
Here are some questions so we can get to know each other a bit better.
Have you always been an ELN?
Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime?
What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?
What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
How much sleep do you usually require?
Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities????
Thank again for joining and if you know of any other ELNs out there in the world, let them know about the tribe.
Wide awake,
Tuqute
Bump in the Night?
a re-occuring experience to share.
For me, being up late has it's moments of peace, creative inspiration and solace. But am i really as alone as i think?
Sometimes (late at night) I will catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye, some movement or a sparkle nothing much. but when i try to look directly at it there is nothing there. I would relate it in the daytime to when you see a fly buzzing around or a glare off a car window out of the corner of your eye, then instantly dismiss it when the source is identified.
I see these 'night moves' pretty frequently, it would seem the more tired i am the more i will see (perhaps an obvious correlation here, perhaps not). They appear when i am alone in a dim quiet room (to rule out someone playing a very elaborite trick on me). I would describe it as being in a room full of insects, all crawling around, flying, scurrying, minding their own business. But you can only see them from a 90 degree angle.
I never feel threatened when i find myself in the situation. But very curious about the world beyond that seems to beckon me.
perhaps this is normal (very early symptoms of sleep deprivation?). Though I get regular rest of around 4-7 hours.
Has anyone experienced the 'night moves'?
Does anyone have an explanation?
Late Night Rants
This in from Deb n' Cats:
So here's my rant: Why do the TV powers that be think we need to see the same commercial at EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK? Do they think we'll eventually give in and buy their product? Actually, if I'd thought about buying it, by the time I've seen their commercial for the 10th time I'll have changed my mind. Ever watch South Park on late nite TV, on the Comedy Network? The same stupid commercial about those videos of bimbo girls who show their boobs comes on every single time there is a commercial break, except on Sundays. But, as soon as it is midnight and therefore, Monday, bling, there they are again! Stop insulting my intelligence, please!
There hasn't been any postings here for awhile so I thought maybe everyone has fallen asleep early. Maybe it's the daylight savings time. Maybe it's the tryptophane in the Turkey.
So, what has everyone been upto in the middle of the night?
Any rants or ravings you'd like to share?
Hey...anyone out there????
Hi Everyone!
If any of you have any good pics of an ELN nature I would be happy to have them posted to our pics section. Although I am open to any type of pic I would at least ask that they be in good taste. So, no abused animals etc., specially since we do have at least one Cat on here that would take offense to it.
*smile*
Thanks, Tuqute
Magical Late Night Combinations
One of our newest members, Produce, asked:
Not that i'm promoting any of my behavior, but i'm a fan of the double 4:20 (both am/pm) and lots of Coke (just the drink). Any body else have any magical latenight combos?
I'm considering adding catfood to the mix...
For myself, the answer is coffee. Actually, coffee with a bit of coffee. No wonder I'm on the Coffee-holics tribe.
So...what Magical Late NIght Combinations have you discovered?
I love my new icon soooo much! It is like a beautiful painting and I think all the humans on here should know what a great artiste you are!! See how good I can type when mom does it for me? I wanted you to know how much it means to me that you spent so much time working on the picture, so I had her write this.
His father Socks passed on August 21, 2004 in the afternoon to the great Catnip in the Sky where he joins his daughter Dragoness and all the other fuzzy friends that have gone before him. He will be greatly missed by both of us.
Good evening Serafina and Aries!
Hi Serafina and Aries!
Welcome to our tribe!
Thanks for joining the Tribe. It is always great to know that there are others out there that share the same hours that I do. Not like the wimps, Late Nighters, pooh, in bed after midnight. I can't even imagine that at all. There is so much valuable time wasted in the night and early morning that can be used for so many great projects.
Here are some questions so we can get to know each other a bit better.
Have you always been an ELN?
Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime?
What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?
What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
How much sleep do you usually require?
Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities????
Thank again for joining and if you know of any other ELNs out there in the world, let them know about the tribe.
Wide awake,
I like to hang out at my favorite websites and chat via AIM with friends, at least until 2a or so. Of course, we also frequent the aforementioned 34 hour Savon, go to the casino or to SCA Bardic Circles and then out to eat afterwards. Sometimes I work on my novels. I watch TV too, if there is nothing better to do and I get laundry done; the middle of the night is great for that if you are in a house with your own laundry facilities! What does everyone else do?
Late Night TV Surprise
I was watching one of my favorite shows the other night, Junk Yard Warriors. Of course since it was after midnight they were kind enough to play all three of the Junk Yard Mega Wars series. The second of the challenges took place out in Death Valley. To my surprise when one of the teams decided to stop for lunch they stopped at Cafe 247. This was the same cafe that the group for Naked Desert used as a meeting place before they tromped out to the middle of the desert and stayed up all night long shooting pics.
It's so true, ELNs are the best! We really know how to pick the good places.
Apparently our doggy member, Madame Gonzaga, was unsubscribed for joining a tribe called alt, where members made up fake profiles and pretended to be other people. One member made up a profile that pretended to be a Tribe employee named Walter and Walter found out. As punishment he deleted the tribe and the profiles of all the offenders. Madame had been recently invited, from what I understand, and had never even posted on this tribe, but she was *unsubscribed* without any warning. Many animal and people friends of Madame's have added *unsubscribed* to their Tribe names in protest, some have also removed their main photo. Tyler has joined this protest and is now *Da unsubscribed Tyler Monster*.
Answers from Summer
Woo.. now that I've finally got a moment free to check up on a bout a week's worth of Tribe stuff...
*Have you always been an ELN?
Yep. Even when constricted by bedtimes (see next answer), I remember CONSTANTLY waking up in the middle of the night as a small child--not because of nightmares or anything, usually, but simply because it felt like the "right" time of day to be up. My first ELN experience was at 4 years old, when I woke up at 3 in the morning for no apparent reason, raided the fridge, and then sat down to watch cartoons all night. Sort of set the mood for the rest of my life, I think. On camping trips, I was always the last one sitting outside into the wee hours looking at the stars.
*Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
Yep. (Poo.) It was 9 PM in my early childhood, then got upgraded to 10 right around 5th grade. But it wasn't terribly strict--I didn't really have to go to sleep, so long as I was in my room and keeping it down. I got a lot of reading done in those days, and learned to pad around the house rather quietly. Mostly this was just tolerated, but I had one grandmother who was very understanding about my nocturnal leanings. She stayed up in the dining room and kept me company on the countless nights when I woke up in a strange house during our family visits, and she was the first person who didn't make me feel "weird" about being a night owl.
*What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?
My creativity goes on a RAMPAGE late at night. I do almost all of my writing after dark, and all of my really good stuff right around 3 or 4 in the morning. The solitude and quiet affords me plenty of space to think and create. The world takes on a whole different face in the night, and the stillness of it is beautiful. I love late night ocean visits. I love enthralling conversations that carry on into sunrise. I love the old reruns and wacky TV shows that only come on in the middle of the night. I love never having to leave the party early. I love being awake just before the rest of the world gets ready to open its eyes.
*What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
Having just started a full-time job for which I have to get up at 5 every morning to get there at 8...it SUCKS, and I'm tired all the time because my body isn't following its natural rhythms. I don't care what anybody says about how you "eventually get used to it" and fall into a "normal" schedule... being an ELN and NOT having a graveyard shift job is probably #1 on my list. The whole lack of enough 24-hour places sucks, too--or even places open til midnight. This town desperately needs a cozy all-night coffee shop. When I was very young, I remember commenting to my mother that the closed-up storefronts and the signed-off TV stations and the empty streets were terribly depressing. I've since changed my attitude about that, obviously, but staying up all night does occasionally still get a touch lonesome and melancholy. Then again, that's part of what is so conducive to my creativity. And besides, now I can just log onto the internet and find aaaall my other ELN friends waiting for me (and that's the BEST part.)
*How much sleep do you usually require?
As this week has shown me, I can get *by* on three to five hours a night for several consecutive days, but it makes me pretty unhappy. I can stay up for about 36 hours before I start hallucinating. But I am a woman who ADORES her sleep, and left to my own devices, I tend to sleep anywhere from 9 to 11 hours, with occasional 15-hour siesta marathons thrown in. The funny thing is, when I sleep at *night*, even when I get a full night's sleep, I'm sometimes still drowsy during the day and find myself catnapping sometime in the late afternoon. Conversely, even if I've been exhausted all day and swear I'll crash early that night, I'll come home and find myself energized as soon as it gets dark out.
*Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities????
Too many to count, too many to remember. Lots that took place at wars, and in my crazy juvenile delinquent high school days. My friend Jake (who should REALLY be on this tribe), myself, and a couple of other ELNs once snuck into the Long Beach Marina and took pictures of ourselves playing pirates on people's boats. We left an interesting modern art sculpture involving phone books and wheelbarrows at the security booth when we left. Last year I took a spontaneous road trip across three counties at 3 AM to have breakfast at Denny's and then fall asleep cuddling with a bed full of people.
...And, of course, there was the Trogdor incident.
Hee.
Late Night TV?
Just came in here after turning the TV off. Once again it seems that I am paying for reruns of movies on HBO, thirty year old TV programs and for the most part Paid Programming.
So here we go with another late night topic:
What do you think about late night TV?
What catches your interest?
What would you like to see on late night TV?
What would you not like to see on late night TV?
Okay I posted on three or four of the messages on here but I need to think about sleep now since its 4:13am lol. I gotta run errands tomorrow including working out in like 4 or 5 hours eep. Here are my answers to the questions and I will try to get by here tomorrow.
Here are some questions so we can get to know each other a bit better.
Have you always been an ELN?
Yes and no. I have always enjoyed staying up late. But really my ELNing started around 3 or 4 years ago when I got mono. Now I have frequent insomnia.
Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime? Once I hit 13 or so not so much. I did not always.
What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN? I like to go swimming in the middle of the night with a full moon in my pool. Skinny dipping is fun too occationally. There are neat people I can talk to from the other side of the world and there are some neat people I never would have gotten to know if they were not late nighters. One of them invited me. Thank you.
What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
Daytime responsibilities.
How much sleep do you usually require? 6 but I sometimes live on 2-4. I really need more after a couple of days of 4 or less. Up to 14-20 hours.
Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities???? My family and I drove all the way to San Diego all night up the coast and back. Yes my family are ELNs too. :)
That is all for now.
You are both very welcome here. Kitties and puppies are great company in the wee hours of the morning.
Tellus a little about yourselves and of course your human companions. There are a few questions that have been posted that may help you get started.
Have you always been an ELN?
Since I was 7 or 8, at least.
Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
No, actually. We had a rule at my house: You could stay up as late as you wanted, as long as
A) You didn't wake up the parents and
B) You got up for school the next day
What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?
Cool night breezes, no traffic, interesting people.
What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
Not enough stuff is open 24/7. If Las Vegas had a coast I'd move in a heartbeat.
How much sleep do you usually require?
Like at least one other ELN on here I suffer from Night Terrors, which means when I do sleep it is restless and I wake up screaming a lot. But I usually shoot for 6 hours or so. Sometimes up to 14.
Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities????
Besides the Naked Desert? I'll get back to you on that one. :)
Thanks for joining the Tribe. It is always great to know that there are others out there that share the same hours that I do. Not like the wimps, Late Nighters, pooh, in bed after midnight. I can't even imagine that at all. There is so much valuable time wasted in the night and early morning that can be used for so many great projects. And, when I think of a great project I'll write it down!
Rawr! Well, I be new, and a cat-lover too! (is that an eln thing too?) Anyways, I think I can safely say I'm the youngest here (16), not that that means censorship is in order.
No.
Really.
Please don't do it. 9_9
Please?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Have you always been an ELN? Hmm...I can't remember, but I've NEVER been a morning person...though I do like to watch the sun rise.

Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime? Yes. Up until middle school it was 8pm, then it was eleven during this school year...though I stopped sleeping around May (sleep? I need no sleep! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!! *eyetwitch*)...don't worry, after school ended I started sleeping again.

if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime? When I was little I did, my mom's basically come to grasp (FINALLY!) the concept that I funtion when it's dark.

What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN? The dark, and the alone time. I do wish my muse would come back though. At war: all I have to say is that all teh fun stuff happens at night...though I'm required to have a chaperone EVERYWHERE...*grumble*...

What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN? Being a YOUNG eln. And the fact that none of my friends are...except my adult SCA friends...o_O whoa...that's kinda weird...in a cool way.

How much sleep do you usually require? Require? 5-8. If left to my own devices I will sleep 12, which is bad. My body gets sleepy when I'm bored or hot or depressed...you get the idea.

Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities? Hmm...well, this one time, at war, my chaperone was hitting on me...that made me feel....is wanted the right word? I dunno, it was strange, but I was kinda glad that someone was interested...even though I am taken, and was at the time as well. I like hanging out with Darksail until all-hours, listening to them talk. It's funniest because usually everyone is drunk except Damashi, which makes it very entertaining. I dunno, that fact amuses me.

Have you always been an ELN?
---I asked my mom about me staying up late as a kid and she said that basically, yeah I have been this way all of my life...Getting up early and staying up late...

Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime?
---My parents did have a set bedtime for me, but they knew that I was staying up reading in bed with my flashlight et cetera...I didn't really have much of a curfew later on in my teens...

What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?
---I have seen some pretty spectacular Moon rises as well as Moon sets...Also, being outside late at night, I have seen some interesting animals run through my yard...

What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
---The fact that everynow and again, I have a day where I just crash and burn for 12+ hours of sleep...

How much sleep do you usually require?
---Well, when I was in a normal cycle, I would get anywhere from 5-6 hours...When I was dealing with severe PTSD, I was getting 2-3 hours a night...Now, I am getting about 4-5 sometimes 6 hours...

Hi Cereal.

Hi and Welcome!

Thanks for joining the Tribe. It is always great to know that there are others out there that share the same hours that I do. Not like the wimps, Late Nighters, pooh, in bed after midnight. I can't even imagine that at all. There is so much valuable time wasted in the night and early morning that can be used for so many great projects. And, when I think of a great project I'll write it down!

Here are some questions so we can get to know each other a bit better.

Have you always been an ELN?

Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime?

What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?

What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?

How much sleep do you usually require?

Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities????

Thank again for joining and if you know of any other ELNs out there in the world, let them know about the tribe.

Wide awake,
Tuqute

Through my cat, whose tribe name is Da Tyler Monster, I've invited some of the many cats on Tribe to join us. After all, they are supposed to be nocturnal. What do the rest of you think? If we don't start communicating, the cats may take it over, they have already commandeered the Big Yellow House!

Have you always been an ELN? Yes, my mother told me tales of my getting up as a small child and performing for their late night guests, including doing the hula for the pastor of our church! I also used to roam the house in the middle of the night when we lived in Palos Verdes; we lived on a hill and I would watch the planes landing at LAX. I worked graveyard at answering services for 5-7 years in my twenties.

Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime? Yes, until 18, my parents were pretty strict.
if yes, Did you follow the times set out by the curfew or bedtime? Heck no! I had green drapes while in high school and I bought a green bulb for my lamp so I could have a light on and stay up late.

What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN? Shopping at 24 hour places. The people on the graveyard shift are friendlier and more personable. It's also quieter, there are no phone calls, except from friends who know you're up and the roads aren't jammed with traffic. I get most of my inspirations for writing during the early morning hours, too.

What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN? Eating dinner later, because most restaurants in our area close by 9p, so we end up going to Denny's *again*. Making appts., because it's hard to know what time I'll get to bed and if I'll get enough sleep to function. Also, getting business taken care of, 'cause it takes me a while to wake up once I do get up and sometimes offices are closed by that time.

How much sleep do you usually require? 8 to 10 hours

Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities???? Well, being an ELN is how I got to know Tuqute, because we were the only ones left online, IMing at 2a-6a! I've had some pretty hairy late night traveling experiences, too, like the night the driver's window was broken out of the car at an SCA Bardic Circle and we came home with plastic wrap and duct tape in its place. Tuqute remembers that one, she was the driver! If I remember right, we got home around 5a that time.

Have you always been an ELN?
~As far back as I can remember I have been an ELN. Most times I had to live my life as a Late Nighter so I could function in the daytime world. But, when given the chance, I always stay up until the sun comes up.

Growing up, did you have a curfew or bedtime?
~Nope! I had neither. I had a mom that was also an ELN so it made it alot easier on me. Myself and my three sisters were all told the same thing by my mom. We were told simply that as long as we got up in the morning to go to school and also did well then she didn't care what time we had to go to bed. I was the only one of her four daughters that took her up on it.

What are some of the things you enjoy most of being an ELN?
~The quiet and the peace of the world. I will only go to Savon in the middle of the night. I get the best service and I'm friends with everyone there. Why would I ever want to give that up?

What are some of the things that you don't enjoy being an ELN?
~Having to deal with morning people! They are just obnoxious and tend to lack a sense of humor.

How much sleep do you usually require?
~about 5 hours a night is great. But then I usually cycle around to where I have to sleep almost a whole day.

Any good tales or stories about your ELN activities????
~ Tons of them. But one of them happened last year at the Great Western War. Myself and two other ELNs had been laughing and sharing stories all night. Unbeknownst to us the pirate group down the way had been plotting a raid of the area we were in and had decided that about 4am would be great since no one else would be up at that time. Summer came up the hill to see who it was that was still awake. When she saw that it was us, known ELNs, she went back down the hill to tell them that waiting would be useless!!!
