It is beautiful out here tonight. The stars are hanging like jewels in the dark night with but a sliver of the moon. Mars is shining bright and the red is clearly visible. The still of the night is broken by the piercing screech of an owl. A shadow passes over and above is the winged beauty silently gliding in the night sky looking for a bit of supper prey. The smell in the air is mixed with the dry weeds and grasses of the hot summer and the moist cool beginnings of the fall. It's a fantastic time to be a native Southern Californian and to be able to interpret the subtle changes of the seasons.

I live in Phoenix and it's just finally started to get kinda cold here, atleast at night. During the day it's still in the upper 60's to lower 70's. Right now it's night and probably below freezing, there's frost on my car anyway. That's the messed up thing about the desert, everyone thinks it's hot all the time, but except for in the middle of summer it gets pretty cold at night when you're out in the desert (though not so much here in the city, the pavement holds the heat)

Oh well, atleast I don't have to deal with driving on icey roads and crap. Still, I kinda miss the snow.

Plenty of icy roads and crap here in Kansas. It is -1 degree with a few inches of snow on the ground.

I do understand the desert thing much better than the icey roads and 1 degree thing. I'm in Southern California and it has turned cold for us. For those of you that live in the extreme cold I know that down into the low 50's or high 40's doesn't sound cold. But, when you put in a difference between day and night temps of 30-40 degrees it does feel cold. I'm native born to this area and the snow thing just escapes me. But, it still feels cold out here even though it's not cold enough for me to get out the jacket yet and I'm still wearing my sandals. For that matter, the jacket that I own I purchased in 1994. Let's see, 10 years, worn at most 3 times in the year, no wonder it seems like it is still new. OK...maybe I should feel a bit of pity for all of you in the snow and cold...nahhhh...just going to go and admire the Christmas lights on the palm tree next door.

        Happy Holidays!
